First, it is important to know that the recent price increases on fencing are not limited to Florida. These price increases are impacting the entire fence industry. Here are just some of the factors driving fence prices to go up in Florida and across the country.
Factors Causing Florida Fence Pricing to Rise
While Florida is open for business, some states still have restrictions. Some of these states have large fence manufacturers, suppliers, and/or transportation services that just aren’t able to operate at 100% yet. This has caused a shortage of fencing across the entire country. Of course, when supply is down, prices go up.
Also, there are actually very different reasons for the price increases in each of the different types of fencing.
Price Increases in Florida Wood Fencing
The price increases of wood fencing in Florida are caused by recent dramatic changes to our trade policy with Canada. This change in policy has choked the supply chain of wood! The U.S. imports the vast majority of our wood from Canada. Not under this administration! I’m certainly not going to use a blog article to air my political grievances … but these crazy price increases on wood fencing are a direct result of government trade policies.
Price Increases in Florida Vinyl Fencing
Weather is the culprit here. Texas saw some nasty weather this past year. While fighting Covid-related issues, Texas had freezing weather and multiple hurricanes which damaged oil production and related industries. Vinyl fencing is made from a petroleum byproduct. No oil, no raw materials for vinyl fencing. Some of the factories in Texas still aren’t operating at their full potential, even all these months later!
Price Increases in Florida Aluminum Fencing
Aluminum fencing prices in Florida haven’t risen as fast as we had feared … but we believe it is on the way. Many of the same problems which impacted every other business (Covid shutdowns for example) also impacted fence manufacturers across the country. Additionally there is a crazy situation with shipments coming from China that are way too detailed to go into here. The bottom line is that if you want an aluminum fence in Florida … NOW is the time to act!
Should I Buy a Fence in Florida? … Or Should I Wait?
We do not believe that prices are coming down anytime soon.
If anything, we expect the price of wood and vinyl to keep rising over the next year. I suggest that you consider buying your fence now, before prices go up even further!
The manufacturers we talk to are telling us they expect fence prices to continue to rise (at least) through the end of this year … and there is no indication when they might start to drop (if ever).
